Her name is Ramandeep Kaur. She is from Batala City, and her life has been marked by two heavy burdens – extreme poverty and severe mental illness that has stolen her dignity and peace. 

Her parents, among the poorest in the community, work as daily wage laborers just to survive. But Ramandeep’s illness makes life unbearably hard for them. She often refuses to wear clothes or bathe. sometimes running into the streets unclothed. Long periods without bathing cause dirt and infection to build up on her scalp, creating deep wounds that eventually become infested with maggots.

A year ago, we brought Ramandeep to our care. Her condition was heartbreaking, but with proper treatment and love, she recovered and went home healthy. Sadly, her illness is so severe that her family could not manage her care, and her health collapsed again.. 

Today, she is once again with us. We are giving her the care, dignity, and medical attention she deserves, with good doctors working to heal her wounds and her spirit. This time, we hope her recovery will last -because no human being should have to live like this.
